West Coast Amusements has been providing safe family fun at the Alberni Fair for over 50 years. Our late president, “Bingo” Hauser, has been in show business since the mid forties. Raised and educated in Brandon, Manitoba, Bingo started travelling with carnivals at a very early age and became well versed in the business by operating a number of rides and concessions.
When Bingo first set out on his own, he started an animal show. This is where the Lion comes from in our logo. Bingo and his wife had a wide variety of animals in his show; alligators, bears, lions, monkeys & raccoons just to name a few! Jackie remembers having to take turns during the night stoking the fire just to keep the lion warm. Some wonderful stories have been shared over the years.
As West Coast Amusements Ltd. grew, so did the Hauser family. Today there are four generations of Hauser out on the midway. Second and third generation actively involved in daily operations, while fourth generation is just getting their feet wet! Bingo and Jackie 3 grandchildren involved in the family business and have 7 great grandchildren. All the kids enjoy travelling on the show once their school year is complete. Whether the kids are selling tickets, operating games or popping popcorn, they’re involved one way or another!
When it comes to the unique nature of the amusement industry, knowledge gained over the past 60+ years is vital to the success in daily operation of West Coast Amusements. We are honored to hold such long lasting relationships with our fair boards, and to be able to go back and share stories from years past that have brought us to today.
We look forward to the Alberni District Fall Fair and creating more memories, in September!
