The Fall Fair Gears Up for Another Great EventPlans are underway for the 2010 Annual Fall Fair. 2010 marks a milestone for the fair as we “Promote our Local Agriculture for 65 Years.” It takes a lot of volunteers to put on an event such as this, both with preparation and hosting the event. The Alberni District Fall Fair Board of Directors couldn’t accomplish this without the support of the Kinsmen, Fall Fair members, and their families, individual enthusiastic volunteers, plus dedicated User Groups. In 2009 we had 125 key volunteers who put in a remarkable 3,500 hours or more to build this 4 day event for the community to enjoy. Our User Groups, are non profit local organizations who do a remarkable job for the fair doing jobs such as parking attendants, gates, set-up & take down of the Home & Business Show, janitorial services, our security, first aid etc. The fair paid out a remarkable $25,000 to these groups who performed these important components of the fair. Agriculture Education remains the key focus of the fair, we celebrate agriculture not only with 4-H, the Open Livestock, and Horse Shows, we promote agriculture products within our static exhibits with entries in the horticulture section and agriculture educational displays that have a local flavour. The fair is in the planning stages to bring in new and interesting attractions as we recognize the need to keep the interest of our spectators. Returning attractions to look for in 2010 are: “World of Wheels” display put on by the AV Drag Race Association in conjunction with the fair, Remote Control Drag Races, Power Tool Races, Tractor Pulls, Logger Sports, West Coast Amusements Midway, our 2010 Car Raffle, our Home & Business Show and Entertainment galore, including return performances with the “Time Benders”. …So stay tuned for more exciting news of what will be happening at the 2010 fair! |
